Question: In his argument with the imaginary rabbit, Lennie says that George has never hurt him and that he's "nice" and "ain't gonna be mean." Does George's final treatment of Lennie in this chapter prove Lennie wrong? When George shoots Lennie, can we interpret this act in any way other than "mean"? Support your answer with evidence from the novel. ?
Please proof-read my answer and does it make since?
Yes, this demonstrates that Lennie was incorrect. What George did was completely right and may have been the only decent thing he could have done after killing Lennie. George understands that Lennie is not entirely to blame for his actions. Lennie's IQ is too low for him to have committed a murder.
Yes, He loves Lennie, and he wants him to look forward to it. He is struggling because he knows he is about to kill Lennie. Also, they are part of his dream he will get to tend them on the farm and because they are soft things he likes to pet. Rabbits also symbolize his realization that he is in trouble; if Lennie does "a bad thing," George will not let him tend the rabbits.
