Question: Code of Sexual Ethics Assignment The basic idea here is to develop a code of sexual ethics that you think is appropriate for yourself and others involved. The background question is: What would be required, practically, for sex to be safe and enjoyable. You may draw on Katherine Angel, but you need not.
An Ethical Codes should (1) Establish fundamental principles and values (2) Give concrete examples of how such principles and values are to be realized (e.g., best practices) (3) Establish clear standards of conduct (4) Establish how problematic conduct will be treated (5) Give examples of the permissible and impermissible that are generalizable (project beyond themselves) (6) Establish clear standards for what to do when various types of infractions of the code occur (7) Establish what is owed to one ( Establish what is owed to others (9) Make clear to newcomers what expectations are and what obligations they have (10) Sensitize all involved to the ethical questions and problems faced (11) Acknowledge complexity but attempt to develops simplified, practicable guidelines when appropriate
Ethical codes may not just prescribe and prohibit - tell those concerned what to do and what not to do - they may also clarify the nature of the activity, the good(s) it serves, and the type of person one must be or should be if one is involved in the activity. Ethical codes may speak to not just what one should or should not do but also to who they should be. In other words, ethical codes may present ideal versions of the activity and participants, setting goals for character and development.
Ethical codes may involve general guidelines to follow, they may involve red light/green light-type specifics, but they may also articulate models of character for those involved to measure themselves against and emulate. Appropriate character traits may be specified or implied.
When developing your ethical code, consider issues of both conduct and character. Does an ethical code fully determine what is permissible and impermissible conduct?
