Documenting and Communicating Project Progress

You have recently been appointed the team leader on a new software development project. The members of your team have worked on various software development projects for the company. At your first team meeting, you suggest that the team meet every time the project reaches a major milestone, as defined in the project plan. However, several members of your team complained that the meetings are a waste of time. These members feel that a well-written progress report from you is all that is necessary to keep them updated and the project moving along smoothly.

Who is right, the team members or the project manager? Provide the rationale for your answer. Discuss the importance of team meetings and written progress reports, including the upsides and downsides of both.
