Question: An ob/gyn in a Catholic hospital has a pregnant patient who has just been diagnosed with uterine cancer. The cancer is contained within the uterus and is not affecting the baby. However, the best course of treatment is a hysterectomy, and the baby is only 15 weeks. If they wait until the baby is viable, the cancer may spread. The mother and all the employees involved in this case are committed to never undergoing or performing direct abortions.
