Assignment:

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) sixth report, which was released in 2021, present unequivocal evidence of human influence on warming the atmosphere, ocean and land, and the resulting climate change. For instance, it shows how the surface temperature increased from 0.8°C between 1850-1900 to 1.3°C between 2010-2019 and attributes a 1°C to 2°C of this change to well-mixed Green House Gasses (GHGs).

The association of increased GHGs with a warming planet is not new. In the fifth report released in 2014, which focused on mitigation of climate change, the IPCC argues that given the cumulative nature and global impact of these gasses regardless of origin, collective action is required to effectively mitigate GHGs emissions. Discuss some of the mitigation pathways and measures proposed in the fifth report. Further, using one recent extreme weather events as your reference, do you think these measures are realistic or is more action needed?
