Question: There are some topics in history that have two sides that refuse to be reconciled. The crusades, I think, is one of them. This week we are going to look at the crusades. Historian Hans Eberhard Mayer argued the crusades were primarily driven by religious factors while historian Ronald Finucane argued it wasn't the religious factor but significant political, economic and military factors that played a role in the motivation of the crusading period.
