Question: In 2015 the U.S. delegation required that, in the section of the Paris Agreement pertaining to greenhouse gas reduction targets, the word 'shall' be changed to the less-binding 'should' in order to not have to submit the agreement to (at that time) a Republican controlled Congress for ratification. In terms of domestic politics, this objection by the U.S. delegation made sense, but in terms of results, do you think this will hamper the Paris Agreement's effectiveness in the long run? Do you feel more or less optimistic about the prospects for dealing with climate change now that the Paris Agreement has been reached? Do you think that wealthy countries should be responsible for transferring financial funds to poor countries to help them mitigate emissions and adapt to climate change?

At the 2018 UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) conference of parties that took place in Poland a young climate activist named Greta Thunberg was invited to speak. At the time, she was a 15 year old Swedish High School student who had been skipping classes every Friday to protest the lack of action by her government. In the video above you can watch her inspirational message and criticism of the UNFCCC process (which includes the Paris Agreement). What do you think of her speech?
