Susanne, a truck driver, was subjected to a random drug test and tested positive for marijuana use. After a confirmatory test verified the initial result, Susanne was suspended. She denied ever having used marijuana. However, she did indicate that she recently started taking CBD oil in an effort to reduce her blood pressure and that she eats a poppy seed bagel every morning before work.

You are Susanne's manager. Is it possible for the CBD oil and/or bagel account for a positive test? If so, do you think that she should remain suspended? If not, what do you recommend to your HR department with regard to Susanne?
