Case Study: A clinical technician works with patients who are suspected of having nerve damage. A patient is referred to this technician by their general practitioner after experiencing prolonged pain and tingling in their right hand. The technician uses sensory nerve conduction studies to measure the nerve conduction velocity (NCV) along the median nerve across the carpal tunnel. The patient is found to have a conduction velocity of 48.5 m/s. Rosario and De Jesus (2021) write that sensory conduction velocity less than 50 meters per second across the carpal tunnel is indicative of carpal tunnel syndrome. The mean and standard deviation of conduction velocity from a sample of 105 healthy adults was 60.2±4.9, with a range of 47 to 70 m/s (Stetson et al., 1992). The physician tells the patient the results do not prove that the patient has carpal tunnel syndrome and that they should wait several months to see if the condition improves on its own. The patient wants a second opinion. You are friends with the patient and they ask what you think.

Question: Do you think the results support a diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome? Why or why not? Is there any other testing that you'd suggest? Use proper citations for information used in your response. This means re-citing the sources used above if you use this information and providing citations for any other sources you use.
