Question 1. Do you think there was a way for Japan to have colonized other nations without engaging in a brutal colonial occupation? Why or why not? Would this have even been possible?

Question 4. Throughout Japanese history, we have seen rebellions against the clan or group in power occur very frequently - especially in times of national crisis or warfare. Why do you think there no attempt to overthrow the military regime in Japan - either during the 1930s leading up to World War II, or during the worst days of the war when the military refused to surrender? Japan had been ruled by repressive regimes before, but there always seemed to be resistance at some point. Why not this time?
