The Bail Trap Game
You will play and respond to the Bail Trap Game in this activity. This online game presents decisions regarding a pretrial release for three individuals arrested for shoplifting. One of the problems with the Criminal Justice System is that it is not equal for all those involved. This activity is to give you insight into the inequalities in our legal system.
Step 1: Access the Bail Trap Game. Be patient; it may take a minute to load.
The Bail Trap Game - Brave New Films
Play the game three times, once for Keven, once for Theresa (this character has two different paths that can be taken with different outcomes), and once for Julio.
Step 2: Answer the following questions. You may copy and paste the questions to answer and submit.
A. Briefly share how each character fared in the game: Could they pay their bail? Did they have to serve any jail time? Were they able to hire a lawyer? Did they hire a private lawyer or take the Public Defender? Were any of them convicted of the crime? Did they have to serve any jail time? What was their outcome? These can be short and informal.
