Case: We've been discussing the suite of negative environmental outcomes associated with our current global food system, including forest loss and land clearing, freshwater and marine pollution, and of course, habitat destruction of many sensitive species. At the same time, in some communities in this country and others (particularly in wealthy ones), there is a movement to eat more healthy, including consuming less sugar, more vegetables, and in some cases, more meat (think 'paleo diet'). The cost of many of the items that are marketed as environmentally friendly or healthy (e.g. organic food; grass-fed beef; etc.) is often much higher than equivalent 'conventional' products.

Do you support organic agriculture, or the suite of agricultural practices that is marketed as sustainable (e.g. grass-fed livestock, cage-free eggs and chicken)? Why or why not? How do you reconcile your choice, given that these products appear to be marketed primarily to privileged, wealthy customers who can afford it? If you are not in support of it, how do you reconcile your choice, given that agricultural production is the number one cause of species loss worldwide?
