For journal assignments, I want to reflect on what the chapter readings make feel. Think about how the material applies life. Want to take notes while read each chapter in the future. Answer some of the questions found in the chapter or do one of the activities. The only guideline is that compose two detailed paragraphs and include at least one direct quote from the chapter. Put it in quotation marks and then tell me what page it is from. Example: "Quote".
Here are some sample questions might want to address, how structure journal entries:
1. What are some specific things you most value in your life? What would your life be like without them?
2. What are the most important elements in your life that give you a sense of purposefulness?
3. Do you experience an "existential vacuum"? Is your life without substance or depth, empty and devoid of meaning? If you do experience this sense of life without purpose, what is this like for you? What are you doing about it? Are you trying to escape these feelings of emptiness?
4. How would you define the phrase "philosophy of life"? What does this entail? How does one develop such a personal philosophy?
5. What does the phrase "embracing diversity" mean to you? How is this concept different from the phrase "tolerance for diversity"?
6. How is embracing diversity related to finding meaning in one's life? How do you interpret this statement: "Meaning in life can be found by paying attention to the common ground we all share and by becoming aware of universal themes that unite us in spite of our differences."
7. What are some specific ways that you can think of for breaking down the barriers that separate you from those who are different from you? What are some advantages of doing so-both for yourself and for others?
8. To what degree do you understand and accept your cultural background? How is understanding your own cultural heritage important if you hope to develop a better appreciate of the cultures of others?
