Case Study: Adolescent egocentrism is described by David Elkind as a heightened self-consciousness of adolescence with two important components. For adolescents, the imaginary audience is a heightened belief that others are as interested in them as they are in themselves. For example, a 13-year old boy might think, "Everyone will stare and laugh at me." Next, the personal fable suggests that the adolescent has a sense of uniqueness and invulnerability in which the 15-year old girl might say, "My parents just do not understand me!"

Question: Do you believe that the frequent use of social media such as Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat increases adolescents' egocentrism? Why, or why not?
