Opinion:

Belbin 9 roles is a very good theory. However some would argue that people are unique and not perfect and therefore even if the 9 roles are filled, the project can have varying outcomes all dependent on the people used in the project.

We would also point out that the Belbin study is limited by a cultural bias as the research was done in the 70's and used predominantly middle class white businessmen (Belbin associates, 2012).

This makes us question the validity of the study and we wonder if used in a different cultural setting and with different genders, age groups and people of differing social status, would the model still be applicable?
