Question 1: While the US does have an array of issues surrounding food insecurities, would agree with you that they are better off than other countries. Even if we look at hunger in the US, it is a symptom of a problem. If people are gainfully employed (making a LIVING wage), are in good physical and mental health, and are in a safe environment (free from different forms of abuse), they can typically feed themselves. When people cannot feed themselves in the US, it's not that they don't know how to but that they are affected by an outside force. When we look at international issues, it becomes more chaotic with different actors and influences. Even if we address global hunger and not the problems causing it, there are issues besides people's willingness to help. Often, aid is stolen from charitable agencies and used to manipulate the people it is intended to help. Without an international governing body to address these issues and punish those responsible, we will continue to face the same roadblocks. Do you think having better accountability of foreign aid would increase our nation's willingness to help?
