You've made a fantastic selection for a restorative environment, the beach. I also chose a beach and agree that spending time in nature is a wonderful contrast to the demands of our daily lives. I enjoyed your description of the different feelings the beach creates and agree with you on all of the above. I would have liked to see an elaboration on the specific details of the beach you chose. Do these restorative feelings generalize across all beaches or is there something special about this specific beach? In my experience not every beach creates that restorative feeling, for example the crowds and the chaos od Bondi beach creates an anxious feeling in myself.
Again some fantastic points regarding the non-restorative environment, the shopping centre. I agree that leaving the shopping centre creates a feeling of exhaustion and decline in mental capacity. I didn't previously think of the safety element of cramming lots of people in one place and you've raised a solid concern here. As per my previous advice my only feedback would be the specificity of your selection choices. Some shopping centres may be more spacious and some include biophilic designs.
I wanted to start by praising your fantastic and detailed responses to the Module 8 Apptivity Task on Restorative Environments. I really like the two places that you have chosen to explore and how they are opposing yet similar environments for the populace.
Regarding your chosen restorative environment, the beach, I really like the way you have explored its restorative nature by comparing it to everyday life. Your perspective that the beach is mainly restorative as it differs so greatly from our daily occupations is innovative and original. To strengthen your restorative response, I would have enjoyed understanding your definition in your own words what a restorative environment is. Furthermore, a connection to the Attention Restoration Theory is missing and I think this would have made an important point to your response.
Regarding your chosen non-restorative environment, the shopping centre, I really like how you have made a connection to the sensory overload being the defining factor that makes this environment non-restorative. Again, to strength your response I would have liked to see an original definition about non-restoration and then make that connection to your chosen environment.
