The Bennett Case

Assignment: Preliminary Claim

You have been given a copy of the Bennett research file along with a copy of the initial client interview form (see Appendix B). This file contains copies of relevant federal codes and regulations regarding discrimination claims under Title VII. The attorney handling the case is eager to pursue a claim under Title VII. Your supervisor tells you that before filing this type of lawsuit a claim with either the state or the EEOC must be submitted.

Your supervisor tells you that the next step is to file a claim with the EEOC. The requirements for this claim are found in the Code of Federal Regulations. You are to read this rule (29 C.F.R. 1601), a copy of which is in the Bennett research file, and draft a claim. The needed factual information should be located in the client interview form. You should also review the Web site for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission for information on filing a charge of discrimination with the agency.
