Case: In Plato's Euthyphro, the two main characters debate an eponymous question. Euthyphro says that "piety is what all the gods love, and piety is what they all hate." Remember that, translated into our terms, this statement would mean "moral rightness is what all the gods love, and moral wrongness is what all the gods hate." In response, Socrates asks a question (that demonstrates the main philosophical problem with Divine command theory): "Do the gods love what is morally right because it is morally right, or is it right because they love it?"

Explain the issue at hand, including the meaning and importance of this question, (b) explain and critically discuss how Socrates uses this question to cast doubt on Euthyphro's thesis that morality does depend on religion, and(c) explain and critically discuss what this question entails (means) for any person who maintains that God is the origin or foundation of morality.
