Problem 1- Dr. Therma claims that 17- year-olds have an average body temperature that is higher than the commonly accepted average human temperature of 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. A simple random sample of 250 17- year-olds is selected. The average temperature of the sample is found to be 98.9 degrees, with standard deviation of 0.6 degrees. At the 0.05 alpha level, test that the sample's mean temperature is higher than 98.6 degrees. Include a formal decision statement regarding the Null and a formal interpretation of the results.

Problem 2- In a classic study of problem solving, Duncker (1945) asked participants to mount a candle on a wall in an upright position so that it would burn normally. One group was given a candle, a book of matches, and a box of tacks. A second group was given the same items, except the tacks and the box were presented separately as two distinct items. The solution to this problem involves using the tacks to mount the box on the wall, which crates as shelf for the candle. Duncker reasoned that the first group of participants would have trouble seeing the "new" function for the box (a shelf) because it was already serving a function (holding the tacks). For each participant, the amount of time to solve the problem was recorded. Data similar to Duncker's are as follows:

Do these data indicate a significant difference between the two conditions? At the 0.01 alpha level, test that the sample means. Include a formal decision statement regarding the Null and a formal interpretation of the results.

Problem #3- Studies have reported that the accuracy of Olympic marksmen can be affected by their own heartbeats. The small vibration caused by the heartbeat seems to be sufficient to affect the marksmen's aim. A sample of n = 6 Olypmic marksmen fired a series of rounds while a researcher recorded their heartbeats. For each marksman, the total score was recorded for shots fired during a heartbeat and for shots fired between heartbeats. Do the data belowindicate a significant difference? Test at the α = 0.05 level. Include a formal decision statement regarding the Null and a formal interpretation of the results.

PROBLEM 4 - Write a paragraph describing an experimental Pre-test/Post-test study of your own creation that employs a control group, a placebo group, and two treatment groups. Include a design model of the study using R, O, and X and clearly label each group.

Problem 5 - A pharmaceutical company has developed a drug that is expected to reduce hunger. To test the drug, three samples of rats were selected with n = 12 in each sample. The first sample received the drug every day. The second samplewas given the drug once a week, and the third sample received no drug at all. The dependent variable was the amount of food eaten by each rat over a 1-month period. These data were analyzed using an ANOVA, and the results are reported in the ANOVA Table below. Fill in all missing values in the table. (Hint: start with the df column.)
