"Diversity and inclusion are two interconnected concepts-but they are far from interchangeable. Diversity is about the representation or the make-up of an entity. Inclusion is about how well the contributions, presence, and perspectives of different groups of people are valued and integrated into an environment." (Bush, 2021)
My understanding is diversity is the make-up of ethnicity, gender, religion, political parties, anything that defines who a person is. Inclusion makes everyone feel included regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, etc. They feel heard and appreciated. Inclusion provides equal access to opportunities.
"Being inclusive of individuals from underrepresented groups is a value add. It impacts the bottom line." Meredith Morales

Diversity is so essential for an organization because it has a significant impact on its overall success. Diversity impacts a company's reputation and a company can experience either financial gains from diversity or monetary losses from lack of diversity.
