Organisation and Scenario:
You are working for a business which has branches in various parts of the world. The manager wants the business to start using a distributed application based on web services so that the employees located in different parts of the world can work in a collaborative fashion. The employees should be able to:
- Communicate with each other using messages, audio and video conferencing
- Share files securely
- Work on documents collaboratively
The manager has heard you have studied this area and have asked you to produce a case study to help him/her understand what the project will be delivering, and a basic explanation of the terminology and technologies used.
What you need to Include:
- As the manager has limited understanding with digital platforms he has asked you to create an information flyer which will help explain in basic terms how the underlying technologies (i.e., etc) work together and how they support each other. The underlying technologies are HTTP, XML, SOAP, UDDI.
- Discuss case study organisation e.g. business type, product lines, number of staff, existing hardware devices, software and network used by the organization, the web services that it wants to create an existing external ones it may want to connect with.
- Expand the basic case study scenario to make it more challenging and more interesting. This will give you the freedom to stand out from the crowd.
- Discuss the intended solution for the case study scenario highlighting the merits and demerits. Be sure to highlight any particular difficulties, dangers or threats to be aware of (See if you can make suggestions about how these might be overcome) and future propositions.
- Although it's not required to pass the assessment, bonus marks (potentially) are available for drafting some XML code descriptors (you are free to choose a suitable product line), you only need to demonstrate you are using the XML syntax and sensible names for them. The code isn't meant to be working code; merely indicative of how it might look.
- A case study video demonstrating the case study in detail. The video should be around 12 to 15 minutes long and should be engaging and convincing enough to win the grounds for your solution. The video should be well presented making use of visuals and diagrams.
