Public health nurses must be aware of what a disaster is by knowing when an event is disrupting a community and loses economic or environmental loss. Natural disasters can include earthquakes, floods, fires, hurricanes, blizzards, dust storms, and tornadoes. Nurses must take into practice spiritual considerations when dealing with a disaster. Considerations would be involving faith-based organizations that can add additional support to people's religious doctrines (Falkner, 2018). By doing this nurses are helping individuals overcome short and long-term distress. Communities also need to heal from disasters, to help, nurses can request spiritual care by involving chaplains for emotional and spiritual needs. A natural disaster such as a hurricane can greatly impact communities, individuals, and healthcare providers based on the damage the disaster has caused. When hurricanes happen, they can destroy homes, schools, hospitals, and the environment that it comes in contact with. This can be devastating to a community as it loses its resources and leaves people in distress. After helping regroup what can be recovered from the disaster, nurses can collaborate with different organizations to help spiritually. The American Red Cross can collaborate by providing disaster spiritual care volunteers to come to talk and pray with the people affected by the disaster (American Red Cross, 2022). In addition, a community health nurse can apply the Christian worldview by providing dignity, comfort, and emotional support to an individual community, self, and colleagues.
