British empirical philosophers (John Locke, et al) have been a major influence on psychology. One of their assumptions was that all knowledge was acquired by learning and association. Pavlov further assumed it would be equally easy to learn to associate any 2 stimuli (a bell and food, shock, touch, illness, anything). What experiment disproves Pavlov's assumption-shows it is easier to learn some things than others.
