Paraphrase this Cancer is both a disease of the cell cycle and a genetic disease. It occurs when mutations in key genes disrupt normal cell division which leads to uncontrolled growth. The cell cycle is normally regulated by tumor suppressor genes and proto-oncogenes, which ensure that cells divide only when needed. When these genes are mutated, whether inherited or acquired, cells can bypass growth checkpoints and multiply uncontrollably forming tumors. This is why cancer is considered a disease of mitosis. However, because these mutations occur in DNA, cancer is also a genetic disease. In addition to genetics, environmental factors play a major role in cancer development. Avoiding tobacco use is one of the most effective ways to prevent lung and other cancers. Eating a healthy diet while limiting processed foods, regular exercise, and protecting the skin from UV radiation with sunscreen can help prevent cancer as well. While not all cancer can be prevented, making healthy choices can significantly lower the risk.
