Statistic Assignment -

Please complete the following task. In this you should aim to analyse and present the statistics in ways that follow standard conventions (such as APA) seen in journal papers.

Task - A researcher has been given the task of identifying factors that influence children's performance on reading tests at the end of primary schooling. The researcher thinks that the more children are exposed to digital media such as games and television the worse they will score, as they will spend less time reading and this will hinder their development in reading. The researcher collects data on a random sample of 11 year olds: a child's score on a reading test and the time spent with digital media per week (in hours).

Your task will be to create a document similar to ones that you see in the results section of a journal paper that includes:

• relevant descriptive statistics (including visualizations if desired)
• a description of assumptions that were to tested in order to justify particular inferential tests
• presentation of the inferential test(s) conducted
• a report of the results of inferential test(s) using standard conventions
• interpretation of your findings
• discussion of the implications and limitations of the study, including your statistical choices if relevant
• a conclusion that addresses whether your findings be used to justify banning these computer games for this age group because doing so will enhance their reading.

General Notes - It is possible to analyse the task in excel though you may need to check that you have the right statistical tools included. If you find you cannot run statistics you should check you have the Analysis ToolPaK add on included (see Excel support).
