Discussion: Human Impact

Do you agree or disagree with my statements? Why do agree or disagree with me?

The little changes we make in our daily life will add up to huge benefits in the long-run if we all gather together and make these changes now to save our planet. I have been a vegetarian for a year now, and am starting to transition into being completely vegan. Raising animals for food generates more greenhouse gases than cars, according to a 2006 study. The livestock sector also accounts for high levels of carbon dioxide and methane production. The large amount of grain feed needed for the livestock contribute to deforestation, habitat loss, and species extinction. Aside from becoming vegan, I could switch my light-bulbs out for compact fluorescent, which use 75% less energy than the standard incandescent bulbs currently in my apartment. The use of less energy decreases the amount of mercury released and, therefore, reduces the amount of greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere.
