Heat exchangers are used in air conditioners, refrigerators, space heaters, power plants, etc. Although they can be built in many different ways, the basic principle behind their functioning is the coupling of exothermic and endothermic reactions. Our bodies have an internally built heat exchange system: sweating. The cold packs or warm packs used to relieve pain are also based on endothermic and exothermic reactions, respectively.
