Presidential powers are vast and somewhat misunderstood by Americans. In recent news there has been a great deal of discussion about Executive Orders and immigration. Historically we've seen many executive orders that have been questionable. For example, President Roosevelt signed an Executive Order, supported by Congress, in which American citizens were removed from their homes and incarcerated for several years, loosing their businesses, livelihood, properties and most importantly, their freedom.

Similarly after 9/11 there were reports of Americans being arrested, stopped, detained for months and then later released with little to no explanation. The question this week is whether or not you think this could happen again in the United States. Could you be detained for years regardless of guilt and constitutional rights? If so, under what circumstances do you think this would occur and why? If not, explain why you think American citizens are now protected from this type of order?
