Almost 50% of the under-5 yr. deaths occurred in only five countries... India, Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Pakistan, and China. The major causes of death in children under 5 yrs. include prematurity, pneumonia and other diseases, social determinants, malnutrition, and inadequate water and sanitation,
