Why would someone buy a company to manage it so badly, so that there's little value left?

I've been saying for years that I don't know how or why Sears is still around. If you want to see sad retailing, visit its Newport Jersey City store, one of the few Sears still open.

Sears was an iconic American company, one of the first to truly support diversity, and its "Sears Catalog" was the internet before there was an internet. It's a very sad tale.
