When discussing conflict resolution in a workplace setting, our class text mentions how it can be dealt with professionally. When handling conflict our class text mentions five different solutions which include: avoiding or withdrawing, competing or forcing, accommodating or smoothing, compromising, and collaborating, confronting, or problem solving. "Conflict can force individuals to search for new approaches; it can foster creativity and enhance the problem-solving process (Gido, 2018). Conflict is not just dealt with project managers, it can involve the whole team that is working on the project. If conflict is handled properly, it can creat a strong team bond, and help the team move forward.

When I searched online about handling conflict within an organization, I found that it is important to resolve conflict at the very begining. It is important to solve conflict right when it arises because then it will set back any further conflict or annoyances to add on top of a current conflict. If a company gets ahead of an issue, then the sooner the company can move forward to achieve the goals that were set.

Five conflict resolution strategies in the workplace by Sonya Krakoff, 2019 include:

Don't ignore conflict. When conflicts are ignored the conflict can reappear at a later time. Causing more tension if it was addressed the first time. Clarify what the issue is. We were all raised differently with different point of views. Sometimes we are so stuck in our own ways to dismiss other ideas. When the issue is addressed team members speak up and hopefully find a way to work through the issue. Bring involved parties together to talk. Communication is important especially in a group project. It is important to have a neutral environment. The goal is to come to a common understanding of what the problem is. Identify a solution. After everyone has been able to talk about it situation now is a time to come up with a solution. This will be easier if both parties put their differences aside to work together. Continue to monitor and follow up on the conflict. Even though the problem is address it doesn't mean it has gone away.

The chapter talked about personal relationship between two people takes time to develop. Conflicts are inevitable. There are potential conflicts on projects. Handling conflict is a task for the project manager to resolve but for team members as well. If the conflict is not resolved it can have a negative impact on the team. I found similar strategies in this weeks chapter. Avoiding the conflict can escalate at a later time. Everyone in the team should be willing to compromise. Unnecessary conflict can be avoided by early involvement of the project team in planning (Gido, 2018).

The Fish! Philosophy provides four simple practices for building strong relationships with anyone. The first practice is to be there. Being there means listening to understand, clear the mind of judgments, be emotionally present, be aware of the needs of others, and turn of eletronics. Being there requires great intentionality and staying in the present moment. The second practice is to choose your attitude. Some practical ways to choose your attitude are to plan ahead for situations that may test your attitude, assume positive intentions, look for the best, focus on gratitude, and self reflect on your attitude throughout the day. The third practice is to make their day. Making a person's day can be through a thank you note or email, praising individuals for doing great things, encouraging someone, celebrate successes, and choosing to go above and beyond in help to someone. The fourth practice is to play. Playing includes using humor, creating and inviting staff to fun activities, try new ideas, expect mistakes and see them as opportunities for growth, and know boundaries of others.

The fish philosophy to give a little background was created way back in 1997 by a philosopher by the name of John Christensen. He was in a fish market and was able to see the manner in which the people worked with laughter and tossing trout! Attitude dials down to smiling, having fun, controlling emotions, being nice, and creating a dialogue. Bring their dials down to being present, also having fun, working to move forward in their career, and, doing things the right way while there. By being able to make someone's day, you can smile, do everything that you can to be nice, have fun while doing it and, creat a lasting relationship with the consumer. Play means that you are going to be nice to your co-workers, pick people up when they are down, really work to make the team a team, and, do things the right way.
