This week we will be discussing a real-world, live example of accounting ethics. The organization where I am employed is undergoing their audit. Today was the first day of their field work. Of course, the auditors look younger and younger each year; this year however, I seem to have inherited a brand new firm with brand new auditors. In my meeting with them today as Controller, I was asked if people at my organization were happy and if I was happy. I was further asked about an ethical situation, which was largely opinion-based, and chided by the auditor when I am only 3 days into the job. So, class, what should Dr. Browning have done in this situation? What from your readings, ethical philosophies, codes of professional conduct, etc. can you bring to this discussion? Was the auditor acting unprofessionally? How should I have responded? I was so taken aback, and I quickly realized our class could learn from this encounter. Answer your question substantively (3 solid paragraphs of 5-7 sentences each) and cite course readings thus far.
