CASE STUDY - STAGE 1

COMPANY SELECTED - FEDEX

Stage 1 consists of gathering financial information (financial reports, financial ratios) on the specific company and identifying the financial and economic strategies used by the company. In short, this stage would have three components:

o Financial reports of the company (including financial statements like income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statements)

o Financial Ratios of the company

o Discussion on the financial and economic strategies used by the company (no more than two pages double-spaced)

Part 1 requires that you download the financial reports (should be 3 years of data), analyze some financial ratios of your chosen firm, and discuss those financial ratios in the context of the firm's financial and economic strategies. I'm attaching a (strong) suggestion of some basic financial ratios that should be computed (3 years of ratios PLUS the ratio of a competitor or an industry average). (ATTACHMENT IS "FINANCIAL RATIO.DOCX" )As I noted in an email to the class, your paper should be submitted through Turnitin; when you believe you are ready to do so, you should also submit your paper in "Assignments" in LEO (see tab on class menu). (NO PLAGERISM AT ALL, AS I AM REQUIRED TO SUBMIT IT ON ‘TURNITIN" FOR THE PROFESSOR TO CONFIRM NO PLAGERISM ON THE DISCUSSION OF THE FINANCIAL AND ECONOMIC STRATEGIES) The financial statements should have a citation at the bottom, citing your source, thus avoiding plagiarism on those. Downloading from yahoo.finance.com is an easy process for financial statements. Yahoo.finance also does a good job of standardizing financial statements, making the ratio analysis quite a bit easier. You should put those financial statements in an appendix of your paper.
