While palliative care is for end-of-life, it can be implemented along with curative therapy, as opposed to hospice, which will not include curative treatment. This will be frustrating and confusing for the patient, who may be at the end of life but wants to continue aggressive treatment. Medical professionals must be able to have an intelligent discussion with patients and families to ensure they make the correct decision between hospice for non-aggressive palliative care and aggressive palliative care.
