To illustrate that flexibility is joint specific, reach over your back with your right hand and try to touch your left hand that you have put behind your back from below. Note how far your hands overlap. Now, reverse and reach over your back with your other hand. Why do you suppose there was a difference (if there was)?

2. Sit on the floor with your legs straight out in front of you and, without bouncing and without bending your knees, breathe out and reach as far as you can in the direction of your toes. Repeat one or two times (you can usually reach about an inch farther on the second try). Could you reach your toes, go past your toes, barely reach past your knees? To what do you attribute your success or lack of success? Who do you think would have more flexibility: males or females? How committed do you think you should be in having stretching as a part of your exercise routine?
