Question

As Eileen Morrison notes in Ethics in Health Administration (2016), "Law is the minimum standard that society approves for actions or behaviors; ethics is much broader and often much more difficult to codify." Health care administration often focuses on the "legal side" of things: policies, procedures, billing, and compliance. However, successful health care administrators recognize making the best ethical decisions for patients, providers, and organizations is of paramount importance.

1. Discuss your interpretation of the four main ethical principles discussed in class: respect for persons, beneficence, nonmaleficence, and justice.

2. Describe an example of how each principle (1) is reflected in the American legal system and (2) is reflected in the operations of a health care organization. Be specific in your examples.
