Question 1
As an activity in Module 1, you had the opportunity to share and discuss your learning scenario. It is useful now to reflect on that scenario using the questions below to help you finalise it:
Does the learning scenario statement reflect what's really going on?What additional insights do I need to include? What's the actual problem/opportunity here?
Once you have revised your learning sc enario:
1. Post your learning scenario statement in the discussion board below. You should respond to the following questions in your post:
What is the workplace context?
What is the scenario? Who requires learning and why?
Which learning design approach(es) do you currently think is most appropriate for your scenario and why?
What is the problem that the learning design will solve or the opportunity taken-up?
2. Include a discussion of how you changed the learning scenario after you reflected and clarified it.
3. Remember to include references to support your chosen learning design approach.
Question 2:
Intent: Building on Assessment Task 1, you will develop a learning design brief that outlines the context of your learning scenario, provides details of stakeholders and learners, and articulates learning outcomes. Your learning design brief will also include a high-level overview of your proposed learning initiative and a justification of its suitability to the learning scenario. You can use the common template as a starting point for your submission (provided below); however, you can use any format you like.
you need to develop a detailed learning design brief for your learning scenario and a high-level overview of your proposed learning design solution. This will form the basis for your final design task of the subject in Assessment task 3. Please note that you are not compelled to use the template; you may develop your own if you wish. The template is only there as a guide to help you get started.
Your learning design brief must include the following as a minimum:
Describe the context of the learning scenario, including organisational context, and any limitations (e.g. limited budget)
Discuss why this is a learning issue that needs to be addressed (e.g. organisational changes, new skills required)
Discuss the characteristics of the learners and their learning needs, including learning objectives
Describe the key stakeholders and any issues that need to be considered when dealing with them
The purpose, rationale and focus of your proposed learning design that responds to the learning scenario (high level only)
Critically discuss which learning design approach has been selected and why it is appropriate to the learning scenario
Please note:Length: 2,000 words
You may notice in the above description that you are asked at different times to describe, discuss, and critically discuss. All of these are slightly different things in terms of academic writing and it's important to be able to recognise what you're being asked to do. The following resources will help you appreciate the differences between different types of academic writing:
Question 3:
Overview
Intent: This task brings together you're learning throughout the subject to develop an innovative learning initiative. Your final design work will address the learning problem or opportunity that you outlined in your learning scenario in Assessment task 1 and then planned out in Assessment task 2. Your innovative learning initiative can incorporate digital, virtual, blended, or workplace learning tools and approaches. You need to develop a comprehensive plan for the innovative learning initiative and discuss the ways in which the learning initiative is considered innovative by referring to the literature which we have discussed in class as well as your own research. You don't need to provide all the collateral (e.g. slide decks, handouts, websites), just provide the plan.
Length: 10-min pre-recorded presentation
Task details
To complete this assessment, you will use the same learning scenario that has underpinned all your assessments for the subject. The focus of Assessment Task 3 is for you to demonstrate what you have learned in the subject by presenting a design for an innovative learning initiative. Importantly, you must also justify your design decisions with reference to the literature (i.e. why did you choose to respond to the scenario in this way? How will the design address the issue?).
Note: By this point, you will ideally have already presented your draft learning design to a small group of peers for feedback in the peer review process in Module 6. You can now use that feedback to finalise your final presentation submission.
Your presentation should address the following:
Provide a very brief overview of the learning scenario to situate the solution (you are not expected to re-describe the scenario from earlier assessments)
Outline your learning design and critically discuss the suitability of the design to the learning scenario. As part of this, discuss the design decisions you made to address contextual, learner, and stakeholder considerations with reference to the literature
Critically discuss the ways in which the learning design addressed the learning needs that you identified in assessments 1 and 2
Critically discuss why the learning design is innovative for the context described with reference to the literature
