Choose a corporate website from the list provided in the International Marketing and Cultural Customization Lesson or choose one on your own that provides consumers the option of selecting a version of the company site for a specific country (be sure to provide the URL's of the two sites that are compared)..I selected Toyota observing the differences between their US site and their site for Peru. The main reason I selected Peru is that some of the other countries kept redirecting to the US site automatically
Acting as a potential consumer and a cross-cultural researcher, identify at least two distinct elements between the two versions of the sites and discuss why they are significant to cross-cultural marketing.
The American page has a rotating marquee of sorts that is rotating the bio of three American athletes that Toyota is sponsoring for the upcoming Olympic games. The web page also shows headings for their products, corporate, and motorsport connections as well as their sponsor of the Paris 2024 Olympics and a link to their luxury brand Lexus. The athletes on this version of the page appear either in team USA gear or with their medals from previous games.
The landing page for Toyota of Peru is slightly different still focusing on the Olympics this version of the site focuses on the companies start your impossible a multinational marketing plan that appears to be target at individual that would be of lesser means to achieve what seems like impossible goals like becoming and Olympic athlete. The Peru site actually does not include a reference to Toyota products at all seeming to opt focus on the athletes and their stories. The athletes on this version of the page are shown in more plain clothing in larger photos
Readings this week as well as previous coursework provide examples of cultural variables that you will want to take note of for your website comparison. For instance, you may identify differences in the two versions of the company website such as the use of colors, language, currency, images (variables such as the ethnicity of people and the age of people in pictures as well as differences in the environment/natural setting of pictures shown), clothing (color and type of clothing), sports, values, hobbies, technology, food, entertainment, language, symbolism, and gender roles. Also, be sure to take note of differences related to website structural elements such as navigation options or the layout of the home page.
The American version of the page appeals more to the national identity focusing on the TEAM USA imagery and the Team of US athletes that Toyota has sponsored with this works well with an American target audience as the sense of National Pride is something that is pushed strongly from an early age.
The Peru version of the webpage appears to identify more with the struggle of the individual working to strengthen personal resilience through adversity and hard work. Tis narrative likely fits better into the Peruvian culture.
