Question - STATISTICS in criminal justice: From current journals, select three articles that contain graphs or maps. For each graph or map, (a) discuss why it was appropriate for that data, and (b) explain what it is attempting to show.
1. Box and Whisker graphs: are a method of showing the measure of central tendency and measure of dispersions of a distribution.
2. Choropleth maps: display frequencies, rates, or other summary data for a variable by using shaded areas, crosshatching, or other methods of demarcating one areas from another.
3. Line charts: (are very commonly used by the media, especially in newspaper stories, because they can show change or trends over time, such as changes in the stock market. Line charts are used less often in graphical representation of statistical analysis and academic research.
4. Scatter plots: (also called scattergrams or scatter graphs) are used most often in correlation and regression analyses.
