Question 1. Read Summers'' article in reference to the most effective approaches to planned change (Summers G., 1986 Download Summers G., 1986), then discuss which of the differing views BEST describes your own personal view about planned change and why. You will choose and discuss one from each category below - a., b., c., and d. For example, for Item a., do you believe in Reform or Revolution, and why? Then, for Item b., Populist or Elitist and why, etc.
a. Reform versus revolution - focuses on whether planned changes can occur by simply modifying the existing social system or by replacing it.
b. Populist versus elitist - focuses on who should decide the path and method of planned change, the people or experts such as scientists, technicians, professional planners, or elected leaders.
c. Structured versus individualists - focuses on whether change efforts should be focused on institutions and social structures or individuals and their behaviors and capacities.
d. Outcome versus process - focuses on whether change should be directed at "immediate improvements in material well-being or toward developing new social, economic, and political processes" that eventually will lead to a better quality of life.
Question 2. Then, discuss which of these differing views is most opposite of your own and why.
