Offshoring: Boon or Curse
Offshoring, sometimes, focuses a large amount of money on relatively poor areas of the world where the manufacturing of a system or the execution of a service is significantly cheaper. A significant incoming flow of wealth is important not only for the people directly related to a project but also to the area where such people live and operate.
The movement of money or the valuation of an area is not necessarily always positive. To some, the capitalization of relatively simple, family-oriented societies is a curse, while others are able to flourish through the economic stimulus.
This week's optional Web resources, or any similar Web resources you might find, may help you prepare for this Discussion.
Discussion Prompt:
- Discuss whether offshoring is primarily a boon or a curse. Provide 1-2 real-life examples to substantiate your viewpoint. Keep in mind the different business infrastructure that may be present on the contracting side.
- Discuss social implications, as large-scale offshoring to a particular country can often affect its economic and social structure and perhaps even change the way a particular country does business.
