In each of the following scenarios, identify the source, where applicable. Discuss whether bias or prejudice have occurred, and provide reasons in support of your position.

1. A local politician argues that we need to loosen immigration regulations to satisfy a growing demand for unskilled labour in the country. The politician owns a very successful mushroom farm that relies on unskilled labour.
2. A journalist writes an article arguing that Jolene would not be a good candidate for the Leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada because she doesn't have the much needed experience to prepare her for the job. Jolene is very young, has only been employed as a lawyer, and has no experience in politics. It turns out that the journalist's cousin, Donna, is also candidate for Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada. (adapted from Coyne)
3. The British Columbia Teachers Federation is providing teachers with posters and teaching materials regarding a controversial oil pipeline development intended for the province of British Columbia, Canada. The poster includes photographs of wildlife, such as bald eagles, grizzly bears, wild salmon, and orca whales, with the headline: "What we stand to lose with pipelines and supertankers." A fact sheet gives a detailed account of the harm that would be caused to the livelihoods of coastal and aboriginal communities that rely on the land if an oil spill were to occur. In addition, the material promotes opposition to the pipeline by presenting BC First Nations' arguments that, by far, more jobs are put at risk than would be created by the development of the oil pipeline to the BC coast from Alberta.
