As you have learned, qualitative data analysis involves coding segments of text and developing themes that can help make meaning of the data and help to answer the research questions.
Attached is a transcription of an interview conducted with a secondary education teacher. This is one of several transcribed interviews used in a study about teachers. The researchers for this study were interested in exploring such questions as:
1. Why do individuals go into the teaching profession?
2. Why do teachers stay or leave the teaching profession?
3. Why do teachers pursue graduate education?
Read the transcribed interview and work to provide answers to these questions, using themes you have generated from the transcribed data. In other words, what information is present in this interview data that could help the answer the research questions above?
Report your findings in the following ways:
A. Table format: Create a table that lists the research questions and any quotes/information from the interview that could help answer the question.
B. Short narrative discussion: In approximately 2 pages, discuss what the interview revealed that could help answer the research questions; again, the use of quotes from the interview can be used.
Note: the same information can be used in both formats A and B. These are just two different ways of presenting the same data. Your textbook provides examples of both formats; please look to your text for examples.
