Assignment:
Ava and William had been married for 52 years. They didn't have any kids. She has had a stroke two years ago and her condition was deteriorating over the course. Ava passed away quietly with William by her side. Three days following the memorial service, William sobbed nonstop. He referred to Ava as if she were still alive when he spoke of her. He frequently struggled to decide what to eat or what he should be doing.Since Ava's passing two months ago, William hadn't cried much. He had a bad appetite and had lost some weight. He visited the nursing facility where Ava passed away once a week and would engage in conversation with the staff members and other residents. He would visit Ava's grave at the cemetery five days a week. The neighbours were concerned for William.
When they offered to bring him out to dinner, he became agitated and distraught and respectfully declined their invitation.Six months after the memorial service, William began going to the store and the church, but he showed little interest in either. He would visit the cemetery once a week. He invited his neighbours over and would often talk about Ava. He had trouble falling asleep and would stay up late pacing the house.Ten months after Ava died, William began feeling more energetic. He did not cry very often, but he did still cry when something significant brought Ava to mind.
He started eating regularly and started taking the neighbour out to supper twice a week. He also contacted a few buddies he hadn't seen in a while and began playing shuffleboard with his homeowner's club. One year after Ava died, William visited the nursing facility to plant a tree in Avaâ€TMs name in the nursing facility courtyard. He also visited her grave that day. That afternoon, he played shuffleboard and went to dinner with a friend he hadnâ€TMt seen in two years. Describe Williamâ€TMs grief reactions no less than 5 sentences.
1) Discuss factors, a minimum of five, affecting Williamâ€TMs grief response and how they could have affected Williamâ€TMs grief response either positively or negatively.
2) Discuss what strategies/ communication techniques, at least four, might have facilitated Williamâ€TMs grief.
3) How loss, grief and bereavement can impact on social and emotional health and well-being of William?
