Homework: The Impact of Domestic Violence Across Communities & Cultures
Domestic violence is all around us and happens daily. The cases involving celebrities get the most media play, but the sad fact is that, right where you live, the chances are that your local police have responded to a domestic violence call in the past 24 hours.
Domestic violence does not discriminate. Victims and offenders span all cultures and communities. Law enforcement agencies must be aware of the communities that comprise their jurisdictions and be sensitive to the dynamics of those specific communities as officers respond to domestic violence calls.
Note: Before attempting this homework, you will need to do outside research on the impact and experience of domestic violence in each of these communities. The following article is an excellent place to start: Abuse and Cultural Context.
