Assessment - Solving a business problem using graph database software
Your Task
- Face-to-Face Students: Complete this task in an online zoom webinar at your usual class time in Week 12. The zoom link will be provided to you a few weeks beforehand.
- Online Students: Complete this task in your usual online webinar in Week 12. Submitting results
- The group dot points should be uploaded via Turnitin after 30 min of class
- 5 minutes presentations will occur in class
- Individual draft submitted at the end of class and full report submitted 72 hours after at the end of class
Assessment Description
The assessment is divided into
PART A: The group will research the following and create 3 to 5 slides with dot points (30 min,)
1. Form groups of 3 or 4 students and chose a leader.
2. Present 3 to 5 slides to your teacher answering the following:
o How do graph databases and the format of the data used by them differ from traditional SQL databases?
o Discuss two industry applications of graph databases.
o List one challenge in relation to using graph databases to explore patterns and relationships.
3. Your leader will submit your group slides on MyKBS at the end of the 30 minutes.
PART B: Individual work
Business Problem: Suppose that you are an analyst for the department of aviation. You have been provided with data from Australian airports, such as the number of flights in and out of cities, flight times and delays. With this in mind,
1. Access Neo4j and run the given script (this will load the data and provide initial graphs).
2. Explore the connections (relationships) between data.
3. Change variable names in order to get a variety of patterns of interconnectedness.
4. Your teacher may give you hints on what to look for on the day.
5. Interpret your results in context, i.e. in relation to flight patterns across Australia.
6. Cut and paste some of the visuals into a Word document and start to interpret your findings.
7. Submit a draft of as a Word file at the end of class via Turnitin.
8. You have 72 hours to finish writing a structured 600 word report on your findings and submit.
