Because the theories explaining behavior, specifically criminal or delinquent behavior, often drive programming decisions within criminal justice and community service agencies, understanding them is critical.
You have successfully completed your internship at the juvenile center, and it was one of the most interesting and rewarding experiences you have had. In order to receive final credit for the internship, you must write one final paper explaining your thoughts about what you consider to be the most influential theory of criminal or delinquent behavior. Your paper must also discuss what you learned about behavioral theories of crime and behavior as you worked with clients at the juvenile center.
Address each of the following requirements with supporting examples as noted. Your submission should be in essay form (not a bulleted list). Incorporate support for your responses and appropriate citations.
First, select the theory that you believe most accurately explains delinquent behavior. Provide an explanation of the theory and why you believe it best explains delinquent behavior.
Then, discuss a prevention program that utilizes this theory. Provide at least two specific examples of how the theory is reflected in the prevention program.
Next, discuss a treatment program that utilizes this theory. Provide at least two specific examples of how the theory is reflected in the treatment program.
Then, discuss a restorative justice philosophy that utilizes this theory. Provide at least two specific examples of how the theory is reflected in the restorative justice philosophy.
Finally, using your background and experience working with Callie, explain how your selected theory and programs/philosophies for treatment and restorative justice might be integrated into the practitioners' work with her case.
