A binomial experiment includes identical trials and has two possible outcomes of which are success and failure. An example of this would be rolling a die 10 times and seeing how many times the number 4 came up. Rolling a die 10 times is the number of trials. Getting a 4 would be a success, and getting any other number would be a failure. This information can be used to find the likelihood of getting a 4 after 5 rolls of a die, or whatever number of times you would like to roll it.

The poisson distribution is used to show how many times an event is likely to occur during a specific period. Let's imagine an average of 5 kids in your class go to the bathroom every hour. What if we want to know the probability of 7 kids going to the bathroom in an hour. An average of 5 kids is our number of events and an hour is our time period. We would use the poisson function to determine the probability of 7 kids going to the bathroom in a one-hour period.
