Essay – I will give you two prompts to choose from on the test. You will only have to write one essay. It is a good idea to start with the 5 paragraph essay format for this section (1. introduction; 2.3.4. supporting paragraphs; 5. conclusion). You should be able to discuss continuity and change in society over time. You should include general dates in your essay, but exact dates are not required in this section. You should also include specific examples from the civilizations we have studied. I will not deduct points for misspellings or grammatical errors, but I do expect you to organize your thoughts well and write legibly.
Essay Topics
1) Discuss slavery throughout the historical time period we have studied so far this semester. Be sure to include specific examples, and be sure to discuss their role in society and how they were treated.

Compare and contrast two major leaders in the Civil War, 1861-1 865. Discuss their contributions to the war, their successes and failures, and how they influenced the outcome of the war
How does Machiavelli's The Prince reflect the general ideals of the Renaissance or humanism?
What was more important in maintaining the discipline of the plantation, physical or psychological control?
What were some of the main characteristics of the ideal knight during the reign of Charlemagne?
What allowed Europeans to increasingly influence, dominate and colonize the world after the fifteenth century? Include the key inventions and reasons of the exploration and scientific revolution eras.
Reflect on how the ancient world(Mesopotamia,Greece, and Rome) contributed significant ideas about government, law, religion, and the role of the individual to later societies.
Discuss the decline of the empire and the last Caesars, what were some of the factors that weakened that empire? Please explain. Do you see any of those things happening in your own nation today? Do you think that might be significant?
